The past few days have been a nightmare. Being totally stressed out over work, uni and just life in general has been having its effects. Headaches, feeling tired and being sluggish have taken over. The thing I need the most when I’m feeling stressed is chocolate. Oh my god does it just fix everything. Upset, have chocolate, heart broken, have chocolate, feeling bored on your diet, have chocolate. No one can deny the fact that chocolate just fixes everything.
But that’s not all. When I think of relaxing all I have in my head is a nice hot shower and a good book. Shut off, forget the world and simply enjoy doing practically nothing. Here’s how I like to de-stress and relax:
Chocolate, of course. What can’t this wonderful invention do? Whether it’s chocolate cake, brownies, hot chocolate or just a plain old chocolate bar, you need it. So you’re on a diet, why not try a low calorie bar? Either way it helps you feel better just after the first bite. Mmmm…
Hot shower. Now I’m not just talking about an ordinary shower, I’m talking about pulling out all the stops. When I’m feeling a bit down and need a pick me up I’ll always reach for Rituals zensation foaming shower gel. This substitutes the fact I don’t have a bath (I know right) and I don’t get to use bath salts but this foaming gel is like heaven, see my full review here.
Body Oil. It’s one of those days where moisturiser is just not enough. Especially when I’m feeling the most stressed I like to use Neal’s Yard Remedies Detox Toning body oil. As soon as I coat myself in the oil, or actually drown my skin in the stuff I instantly feel relaxed and almost to the point I’m falling asleep with my hair still in a towel.
Read. Turn off the TV, put your phone on silent, pick yourself out a good book and get comfy. My favourite author has to be Carol Matthews, she is just amazing. I just get lost in the world of the character and even after I’ve finished the book I still feel like I’m living in a dream world. If you’re not a big reader then get out some magazines and have a good old read. I can ensure you by the end of it you’ll be ready for bed all relaxed and tired.
Exercise. Now the last thing you want to do when stressed is exercise but it actually helps. Whether it’s a light jog, cycling or even yoga, all of these help to clear the mind. If you struggle to motivate yourself simply do some light stretches with some calming music.
What to avoid. Now it’s easy to say what we need when we’re stressed but we hardly know is what to avoid. Try to stay away from any technology as this can just keep your brain active and over working. Also avoid caffeine as includes stimulates so it will increase your levels of stress rather than reduce it. Try and drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated.
