The truth is, I’m a big fan of lip balms, tinted balms and lip crayons. It plays well with my no make-up, make-up look and it takes zero effort. When it comes to my lips, they are insanely small so even considering a lipstick is hard work. Pick the wrong shade and your lips look even smaller. Over the past few years I’ve experimented with colours, brands and the type of lipstick and I think I’ve finally found my perfect shades – even if I do only bring them out some of them at the weekends.
Avon True Colour Lipstick in Tender Kiss (Now £4.50), is like the perfect Spring pink with just the right amount of shine. Unlike most pink shades I’ve come across, this one doesn’t make me look like I’m trying too hard. It finishes off my everyday look or for when I’m having a low key night out, you know the ones, gorgeous meal out, a cocktail and then chill out for the rest of the evening. It just works with everything.
Nars Sheer Lipstick in Dolce Vita (£22), looks similarly to the Avon one but with just less of a pink shade and the added glittery shine. It moisturisers my lips beautifully and matches my own lip shade. Ok, why would you want to wear a lipstick that matches your own lips? Well, because for the days you’re dressing it down but want to add shine (not the shimmery type) and to turn up your natural lip shade by like a thousand, then this is perfect! I was actually gifted this lipstick by my sister so for her to pick a shade that matches my own is incredible! I will forever have this in my make-up bag to complete my simple, yet sophisticated look.
No7 Match Made Moisture Drench Lipstick in Pillarbox Red (£10), it doesn’t matter what kind of person you are when it comes to make-up, everyone should own a red lipstick. It matches almost everything I own and it completes any outfit for when I do want a night out that’s more than just one cocktail (if you know what I mean). Admittedly, I do have to spend more time applying my lipstick than the rest of my face because, well, you don’t want to end up looking like a five-year-old trying on your mums lippy. It’s the downfall of having small lips ok, it’s hard!
L.A Girl Metal Liquid Lipstick in Treasure (£5), is like telling the world you’re a badass and you know it. Slightly over exaggerated? Possibly, but this liquid lipstick is the best compromise for you’re not confident enough for that red shade, or if you want a softer look. Red is fierce, ok? It’s gorgeous smelling lipstick, it’s easy to apply and take off and lasts as long as you do on a night out, ok, a lot longer if you’re on the double vodkas but it passes it’s tests.
