It’s generally at this time of year that I look for eyeshadow palettes, lip products and any other cosmetics that contain glitter or is even hinting at a bit of shimmer. It’s also the time of year that I swap my simple face make-up and maybe a flick of a mascara to something more in-depth, something that includes more than one shade of eyeshadow, winged eyeliner and even a liquid highlight. This year begins with more focus on the eyes and a simple lip, here’s my festive make-up for beginners…
When it comes to the eyes, you’re expected to go all out for the festive season and although it’s something I love doing, I still wanted to look like myself which is why, on my eyes, I wore a combination of shades from the Stylondon Eaton Square Eyeshadow Palette (£9.99), a beautiful high pigmented pinky/red/brown shades that are easily blendable. I tend to reach for a simple matte shadow topped off with the most glittery shade I can see. Combined with the Aldi Lacura Lash Queen For Volume & Definition (in stores now), a thick brush that gets smaller towards the end coats the lashes individually without any clumping and is buildable for your desired look. Finished off with Rimmel Scandleyes Thick & Thin Eyeliner (£5.99), something definitely out of my everyday comfort zone but so easily useable and although it feels a bit funny using what looks and feels like a felt tip pen, it gives a great finish and ultra precision – and is 24 hour proof!
The face is always something I concentrate on no matter what time of year it is purely because my pigmentation and acne takes a lot of time and effort to cover. Through the week I do keep it simply with foundation, concealer and a green cc cream and although the festive season won’t be any different, it does bring along the opportunities of a highlighter! Whatever foundation I pick, I team it up with the Aldi Lacura Concealer Pen (in stores now), a creamy and buildable concealer that works along my foundation without resulting in any orange patches. After the base is set, I go in with the highlighter to give my skin a bit of festive oomph! The Kaleido Cosmetics Astrolight Highlighter (currently unavailable), isn’t something I’d usually talk about is it isn’t available but the creamy blend is like the highlighter of all highlighters with its pigment, staying power and of course, that glow! If that doesn’t scream festive – or even New Year – then I don’t know what does.
Through the week you may see me supporting a very plain lip but when it comes to a night out or the festive season, there are always lip products involved – even with a full eye look. The first product, which is like a matte dream, is the Laqa & Co Cloud Lips in Daydream (£13.24), a pink/purple shade infused with avocado oil to keep lips moisturised through any occasion whether it’s drinks with friends or an all out out night. For extra sparkle, I apply No7 High Shine Lip Gloss in Sparkling Rose (£9), a very glossy and shimmery blend to perk up any make-up look. The long-wearing gloss is surprisingly not sticky and glides on easily giving you your desired look after just one swipe.
What’s going to be your festive make-up look.
